As much as Matt's article was an interesting read, it failed to call out the fact that the majority of restaurants in Dubai play music at uncomfortably loud volumes, whether the restaurant is high end, low end, full or empty. As someone who wants to talk to my friends when I go out, I always end up having to ask the staff to turn the volume down, which a) makes me feel ancient and b) sometimes turns into a battle over the volume control. After several weeks in Europe this summer, this has not been a problem once, so I'm not sure why this appears to be such a trend in Dubai *rant over*
I'm definitely like you. I'm never afraid to ask the volume to be turned down. Furthermore, as good as any restaurant might be, I won't be going again if the volume is too loud/music too annoying. I dine early (~7PM) and expect the volume to reflect that it's not late night.
