A season for trying new things, yes? I was invited to the recently opened The Nice Guy, located at Emirates Towers on the ground floor. Upon our arrival, the restaurant gives art deco vibes, complete with a plush red carpet at the entrance. Inside the restaurant, the fit-out reads something like an Americana Trader Vic’s (minus all the tiki shit). While the balance of ‘intimate lighting’ is difficult, I think The Nice Guy goes too far in one direction (I’ll let you guess…it’s too dark). Furthermore, I honestly believe future patrons will trip/fall/or do something embarrassing because there are a lot of weird (unnecessary?) up-and-down moments across the restaurant. Further inside, there’s also a second lounge and bar (?) that allows smoking but — no surprises — doesn’t have an excellent filtration system.
