There are hotels that are — let’s face it — try-hard, and then there’s the Nai Harn, a resort that knows exactly what it is (which, in this case, is a nice property that holds one well-deserved Michelin key). Tucked above one of Phuket’s best beaches sits a perfectly sized resort. Now, in my preparation for the trip, I was much more hands-off than usual. As in, there were a lot of proverbial curveballs thrown into planning. Given the regional situation, could we actually travel? Would we be traveling with friends? What would the weather be like (and if terrible, was it worth going)? What might happen if, for any reason, we got stuck in Thailand?

Fortunately, a considerate friend from the tourism industry did the legwork for me and asked, “Would you like 3 nights at Nai Harn?” With minimal consideration, I said, “Yes!” Now, it has been a MINUTE since I stayed in a non-chain hotel, and I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It’s not that there isn’t a place for Four Seasons…
