As someone who really likes hotels, I’ll forever take a chance to visit a new one. Fortunately, I live in a city where new hotels open on a regular basis, including Jumeirah’s most recent offer, Marsa al Arab (even if, at the time of my visit, I peeked in on pricing for a night’s stay and it was over AED8,000 (!!!)). Meant to resemble a yacht, The Cullinan leans heavily into this vibe. Upholstered seats, long, clean lines on the floor, service staff in trim little outfits that honestly read a bit more Belmond than anything else. All things considered, it’s a smart look.

Turning the pages of the menu, I find plenty I want to try. While many of the dishes are offered elsewhere in the market, it’s clear The Cullinan has put time into its menu development and has done things differently. We started with a collection of freshly baked bread and flavored butter. Yes, one of the butters is Nutella. No, I don’t think it particularly works. However, the other butters are nice.
