When finding a place to dine in a new city, I usually look to the Michelin guide or other awards for assistance. Ideally, I would know someone familiar with the city, but alas, Helsinki isn’t in my current network. With not quite one full day in Helsinki (our train departed at 11 pm, and after an overnight flight, I didn’t want to commit to a dinner reservation), I looked towards restaurants with a degustation available for lunch. Fortunately, a Michelin-star restaurant, and the recipient of a coveted green star, Grön, was open. Reservations were easy to make online, and we showed up for lunch in late November. 

Upon arrival, our party opted for the protein-tasting menu, priced at EUR128 (and yes, there was a vegan option available as well). We also all chose the wine pairing, priced at EUR128 per person. Other drinks — champagne at the start of the meal and a final aperitif — pushed our bill up a bit (EUR600 per couple, including gratuity). The wine pairing is interesting and starts …
