Sitting in the private dining room off the kitchen of Osteria Francescana (which also serves as a wine cellar), I can’t help but feel bad for the other guests, all of whom (like us) have queued to be prompt for our 12:30 reservation. And while they sit in the dining room, here we are on the first day of service with a new menu from one of the greatest living chefs. Making this even more special? Massimo is on hand only for lunch, not dinner, to serve and explain every course. Given that most of the Modena portion of our Italian adventure only came together at the last minute, “surreal” is the only word to describe the experience. Even better?
