On my recent press trip, on our penultimate day in Colombia, we made plans to visit Humo Negro for lunch, a cozy and award-winning restaurant in Bogotá (and yes, as you might have guessed, listed in the World’s 50 Best Latin America awards). Upon arrival, the interior, as predicted, honors the “negro” in the title of the restaurant (which translates to black smoke). With walls painted black and curtains pulled tight, the beautiful sunshine outside is (sadly) not allowed to penetrate our tables. The restaurant is cozy, broken into a dining room, an outdoor dining space, and a tiny bar. The kitchen is an open concept mostly because closing it in would make it entirely claustrophobic (and a fire hazard with the wood fire range). Quite strangely and definitely worth mentioning? The bathroom represents a club bathroom from the early 2000s. Yes, there are black lights. Yes, there is neon graffiti. Yes, figuring out how to turn on the taps is difficult. Yes, I still like it, anyway…?
