I’ll be upfront and mention I did little to no research on any of the restaurants for my recent trip to Italy. The people making my bookings are individuals whom I trust implicitly, so I had to believe they had my best interests in mind. Additionally, with some poorly timed travel (Monday and Tuesday nights, when many other global foodies were in town), I was happy to take whatever I could get.
Enter Contraste, a one-Michelin-starred restaurant in Milano, headed by Chef Matias Perdomo.
From the entrance, it’s clear that I’m in for something of an avant-garde performance. The simple round tables are dramatic against the 1950s terrazzo floors and theatrical-like interiors, which mix mid-century and centuries-old elements. The tablecloths? Heavy, textured, and synthetically plastic. The aircon? Not working well enough (especially where a perimenopausal woman was involved). The music? Super cool.
