When I saw that I would be checking into the Chable Yucatán on my trip to Mexico earlier in the year, I was over the moon. If you believe in these sorts of lists (of which I mostly find some degree of credit), the property is the 13th-best hotel in the world, recently crowned in the 2023 inaugural 50 Best Hotels edition.
After touring Mexico City, we made our way north to the Yucatan. I won’t lie — our trip started with a somewhat awkward moment at the resort’s gate, where the (slightly aggressive) security guard asked why we were there. I find most of the best hotels in the world are usually tracking the flights/arrivals of their guests and should be prepared/proactive (especially when said guests are adding at least 20 rooms during low season). Furthermore, given how far back from the main road the property is located, guests have to plan to be at the entrance — it’s not an accidental place to show up.
